WHAT IS A PSYChOTHERAPIST?
In Quebec, As of June 2013, the title of psychotherapist has become a protected title. That means that the practice of psychotherapy is reserved only for those professionals holding a psychotherapy permit given by the OPQ (l’Ordre de Psychologues du Quebec). Professionals holding this permit meet the criteria in terms of training and education, supervision and experience deemed necessary by the OPQ to deliver psychotherapy treatment. Now only a professional recognized and licensed by the OPQ (Psychologist, psychotherapist or medical doctor) is allowed to treat certain conditions such as anxiety disorders, depression, etc. with psychotherapy.
For more information, please consult the OPQ website: `
